Custom-Fabricated Vinyl Stair Tread — fabricated from customer-specified resilient flooring material.

1. Product Description

Custom-fabricated stair tread manufactured from customer-specified resilient vinyl flooring. Treads are fabricated to provide a finished stair solution with integrated nosing and riser return, designed to meet ADA 2010 and applicable IBC stair dimensional requirements when properly installed. This product is intended for use in multifamily, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, and institutional applications.

Custom dimensions available upon request.

3. Material

Fabricated from customer-specified resilient vinyl flooring material. Material performance characteristics — including but not limited to slip resistance (DCOF/SCOF), flame spread / smoke development, VOC emissions, and wear resistance — are based solely on the published technical data of the specified flooring manufacturer.

4. Compliance

Surface performance characteristics (including slip resistance and fire performance) are dependent upon the specified flooring material manufacturer’s published test data.

5. Installation

• Substrate must be clean, smooth, dry, and structurally sound.
• Install using adhesive recommended by the flooring manufacturer for stair applications.
• Follow the flooring manufacturer’s guidelines for environmental conditions and cure times.
• Installer is responsible for verifying stair dimensions comply with local code requirements.

6. Lead Time

Standard production lead time is approximately 2 weeks for orders up to 2,000 units. Expedited production is available based on schedule.

7. Warranty

Fabrication workmanship warranty: 1 year, covering defects in fabrication under normal use conditions. Performance of the base flooring material is covered solely under the original flooring manufacturer’s warranty. See the full Limited Warranty below.

8. Limitations

This product is fabricated from customer-supplied or customer-specified materials. The fabricator assumes no responsibility for the inherent performance characteristics of the specified flooring material.

Stair tread parts

• Nosing — the rounded, protruding edge of the tread that overhangs the riser below; the part you step on.
• Back Piece — the rear part of the tread that locks into the nosing.
• Lock — a tongue-and-groove system that connects the nosing and back piece for a secure fit.
• Adhesive Tape — pre-applied to the underside of both the nosing and back piece; bonds the new tread to the existing stair.

Preparing your staircase

1. Clear the way — remove any existing carpet, flooring, or coverings from stairs and risers; scrape away leftover adhesive, tape, glue, or debris; vacuum and wipe down all surfaces.
2. Achieve a smooth surface — fill cracks, holes, or gaps with wood filler or patching compound and let it dry; sand down bumps and uneven areas; vacuum away sanding dust. A clean, smooth, level surface is essential for proper adhesion.

Installation overview

1. Start from the bottom and work upward for stability.
2. Riser, then tread — secure the riser against the vertical face of the step with construction adhesive, then position the tread so the underside of its nosing fits snugly into the top of the riser.
3. Repeat the riser-then-tread pattern to the top of the staircase.
4. Measure precisely — use a stair jig or template to mark each tread, and cut carefully along the marked lines.
5. Test-fit the nosing and back piece before applying adhesive; adjust as needed, then clean the surface.

Step-by-step installation

1. Install the riser — place it against the vertical face of the step, flush against the top of the tread below, and secure with construction adhesive. (Skip if using the existing riser.)
2. Install the nosing — after cutting to measurement, peel the wax paper from the adhesive backing, align the nosing with the tread edge (inside edge flush against the existing nosing), and avoid pressing down until placement is correct.
3. Secure the nosing — press firmly along the entire length and use a roller for even pressure.
4. Install the back piece — after cutting, peel the wax paper, align its lock with the nosing lock at a 45° angle, insert, and gently lower onto the tread.
5. Double-check the lock — make sure it is fully engaged (it should click or snap into place) before pressing down.
6. Secure the back piece — press firmly along the length and roll for a strong bond.
7. Move to the next step — repeat for each riser and tread to the top of the staircase.

Safety & tips

• Wear safety glasses and gloves during removal and installation.
• Measure twice, cut once — careful measurement and placement give a professional finish.
• Refer to the flooring manufacturer’s instructions for any product-specific guidance.
• Use the right tools: saw, hammer, level, roller, and measuring tape.

Functional Stairs, LLC — Custom-Fabricated Vinyl Stair Treads & Nosing

Functional Stairs, LLC (“Functional Stairs”) warrants to the original purchaser that its custom-fabricated stair nosing and bent stair treads (the “Products”), manufactured from customer-specified resilient flooring materials, will be free from defects in workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase.

Scope of warranty

This warranty applies solely to defects arising from Functional Stairs’ fabrication process. Covered defects are limited to:

• Structural failure of the fabricated tread or nosing resulting in a break extending completely through the product; or
• Complete loss of surface pattern or color resulting from normal foot traffic,

provided such condition is directly attributable to Functional Stairs’ modification of the original flat flooring material. If a covered defect occurs within the warranty period, Functional Stairs’ sole obligation shall be to provide replacement product for the defective tread or nosing. Labor, removal, reinstallation, freight, and any related costs are excluded.

Exclusions

This warranty does not cover:

• Damage caused by abuse, misuse, impact, cutting, gouging, scratching, or improper maintenance.
• Damage from construction activities, moving heavy equipment, or use of floor machines or vacuum beater bars.
• Moisture-related issues including flooding, hydrostatic pressure, plumbing leaks, or excessive humidity.
• Improper installation or failure to follow Functional Stairs’ installation guidelines.
• Jobsite conditions that do not meet flooring manufacturer requirements.
• Normal wear, gloss reduction, or surface scratching.
• Minor variations in color, shade, or texture between samples and final installed product.
• Any performance issues related to the underlying flooring material.

Material disclaimer

Functional Stairs fabricates its products from customer-specified or customer-supplied resilient flooring materials originally manufactured by third parties. Functional Stairs does not warrant the performance characteristics of the original flooring material, including but not limited to slip resistance, fire performance, durability, or color stability. Any warranties provided by the original flooring manufacturer remain solely between the purchaser and that manufacturer. Functional Stairs makes no representation regarding the applicability or continuation of such warranties after modification.

Limitation of liability

Except for the express limited warranty stated above, Functional Stairs makes no other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Functional Stairs’ total liability under this warranty shall not exceed the original purchase price of the Products. Under no circumstances shall Functional Stairs be liable for incidental, consequential, indirect, or special damages.
